How the Tabtone v0.3.0 extension and this website handle data.

The extension stores recordings locally

Tabtone saves captured audio, recording names, source tab titles, track names and editing preferences in the extension’s browser storage on your device. Recording length and local Pro preview preferences are stored there too. They are not an online account or a cloud library.

The shipped v0.3.0 extension does not upload audio, use a remote encoder, include analytics or connect to a remote service. Its scripts and audio encoder are bundled locally and its extension content security policy blocks network connections.

You choose when recording starts

Recording starts after you invoke the extension on a tab and choose Record this tab. The manifest requests tabCapture, activeTab and offscreen: these let it capture the selected tab after your action and keep recording when its popup closes. There are no host permissions, content scripts or microphone capture in this build. It records audio, not video.

Your local library needs a backup

Exported tracks and the saved browser original download through your browser. After export, those files are wherever you or your browser save them. Removing the extension, clearing its storage or losing the browser profile can remove local recordings. Autosave can preserve committed audio after an interruption; it does not guarantee a complete recording or an external backup.

Use the studio’s confirmed deletion control to remove a take from the extension library. Copies you already downloaded remain separate. See how to back up recordings before clearing anything.

This website

The website serves pages and images. Public extension downloads are not available. It does not ask for an account, payment or audio upload. Guide search and topic filtering run in your browser; the search text is not sent by this site to a server. The pages use no analytics scripts, tracking cookies or third-party font requests.

Like ordinary web hosting, the server processes requests and keeps access and error logs. These can include an IP address, request time, requested address, browser information, referring address and response status. This website does not promise anonymous access or a specific log deletion period.

Links to external documentation open services with their own data practices. The preview has no contact form or support inbox collecting personal data through this website.

When you choose to share

Audio and names may contain private material. Check downloaded files and screenshots before sending them to someone else. Record and reuse material you own or have permission to save. For practical questions about local storage, recording or exports, start with Help & support.
