How long can I record with Tabtone, and how should I plan a take?
A Free take records up to three minutes. Check the selected length before recording: Tabtone stops and saves when that limit is reached.
Fit the take to one useful result
Start with the passage you need, then choose a recording length that leaves room for its beginning and end. A short explanation, draft song section or group of separated sound effects is a better fit than a whole lecture or long listening session.
For example, if a replay passage lasts two minutes, the Free limit leaves some room for context. A four-minute passage does not fit a three-minute take: you will need an available longer recording length, a shorter excerpt or the source’s own permitted download. Do not assume the recorder will carry on after the displayed limit.
Choose the limit before you start
- Open the source tab, cue your audio and open Tabtone. Under Recording length, inspect the selected option.
- For a short take, select 3 minutes · Free.
- For a longer take, click the locked 10 minutes · Pro choice or the plan control. Read the explanation and choose Try Pro preview.
- This selects 10 minutes. Confirm that it is selected before starting; choosing a different length affects the next take.
- Confirm the displayed length, then click Record this tab. Stop with Stop & save as soon as you have what you need.
What the limit does during a take
The duration is captured when recording starts. Changing a preference afterwards affects a later take; it does not extend or shorten the active one. At the limit, Tabtone stops and autosaves locally. It does not start the next take, automatically download a file or offer pause and resume.
The optional ten-minute choice is a local demonstration on this device, with no purchase or paid licence connected. Ten minutes is the maximum supported take. Storage availability, a write error or device performance can stop a recording earlier, so an important passage still deserves a test and a saved export.
For material beyond ten minutes
Use an approved original download when available. If the task is really a set of short references, cue and record each useful passage separately. Name the takes by topic and keep source timestamps in your notes. Starting several takes manually is an excerpt workflow, not a continuous whole-session recording feature.
Longer local takes also use more storage: ten minutes of captured float PCM uses about 230 MB before the browser original and metadata. Export files you want to keep, verify them and delete unneeded local takes using the studio’s confirmation.
See the webinar excerpt workflow for a focused example, or back up recordings before clearing space.
