How do I save a useful excerpt from a webinar replay?
If you have permission to save the replay, cue the useful passage in a desktop Chrome tab and record that short segment with Tabtone. Stop after the passage, review the suggested tracks and export the excerpt as MP3 or WAV.
Choose the passage before you record
A replay might contain one explanation you want to revisit before a meeting: a two-minute product demonstration, an answer from the Q&A or a short account of how a process works. Start by noting the replay URL and the passage’s timestamp somewhere you can find them. An audio file alone will not preserve the slide, chat or surrounding discussion.
Check whether the host already provides an approved download or excerpt. Use that when it meets your needs. Tabtone is useful when you are allowed to keep a short piece of browser playback and want a small audio reference rather than the whole session.
Record one complete idea
- Open the replay in an ordinary desktop Chrome tab and pause just before the passage. Leave a little context before the sentence you need.
- Open Tabtone from Chrome’s Extensions menu. Check the source tab shown in the popup and the selected recording length.
- Click Record this tab, then play the passage. The Free take stops and saves at three minutes, so choose an excerpt that comfortably fits.
- After the final sentence, open Tabtone and click Stop & save. Keep the source tab open until you have finished the take.
- In the studio, click the large recording title and give it a useful name, such as “Onboarding webinar — access roles”. Press Enter to save.
Keep the answer together
Speech pauses can produce more than one suggested track. Use Preview to listen, and use Merge at on a boundary that cuts the explanation into pieces. Increasing Split when silence lasts also reduces suggestions. Tabtone detects quiet gaps; it does not know where a speaker finishes an idea.
The automatic Trim silence at the start & end setting can remove quiet edges, but it is not a selection tool for cutting at any word. If you need an exact sentence boundary that has no quiet gap, record closer to that passage or finish the edit in an audio editor.
Save the excerpt with its context
Rename the track to describe the explanation, choose a format and click its Export button. Listen to the downloaded file before relying on it. Keep your URL, timestamp and any permission notes alongside it; Tabtone does not attach those notes to the export.
For a longer explanation, plan the recording length before starting. For spoken revision material, the class excerpt workflow explains how to make a reference useful later.
Put your browser audio to use.
Record the tab you choose, split it into tracks and save the parts you need as MP3 or WAV.
