How do I record one Chrome tab when other tabs are making sound?
Open Tabtone while you are on the tab you want, check the source title and click Record this tab. The take follows that chosen tab rather than combining all open tabs or your computer’s audio output.
Choose the source before starting
Several open tabs can make a recording task confusing. You may have a music draft in one tab, a video in another and a chat app nearby. Tabtone’s recording source is the tab you explicitly select when you invoke it and start the take. It is not a browser-wide audio mix.
That makes the source check useful even when the task is simple. Give the intended player its own tab where possible, make sure it is ready, and look at the tab title shown in Tabtone before clicking the recording button. Only record material you own or have permission to keep.
Record and verify the chosen tab
- Select the ordinary Chrome tab containing your intended playback. Cue the passage and pause any unnecessary players inside that page.
- Open Tabtone from the Extensions menu. Confirm that its displayed source title matches the page you chose.
- Check the recording length, then click Record this tab and start playback. A Free take lasts up to three minutes.
- Keep the source tab open. When you have the passage, reopen Tabtone and click Stop & save.
- Use Preview in the studio. Confirm you captured the expected source before naming and exporting the wanted track.
What happens when you switch pages?
Switching your attention to a different browser tab does not turn that other tab into the active recording source. The take continues with the original chosen tab. Closing the popup also leaves capture running; the red REC badge is a reminder to stop when finished.
Navigating inside the recorded tab is different: the capture continues in that same tab, so audio from the newly loaded page can enter the take. Avoid following links or replacing the page until you have stopped. Closing the source tab ends and saves the recording.
One tab can still contain several sounds
Tabtone captures the selected tab’s output, including its own alerts, embedded players and other sounds. It cannot separate a song from a chat notification generated inside that page. It also does not identify speakers or isolate one audio element. For a cleaner take, silence unrelated page features or use a dedicated playback view when one is available.
Audio from other tabs is outside this selected stream, as are your microphone and full system output. If ambient noise is the issue, see recording without the microphone. For the background-capture controls, see what happens when you close the popup.
Put your browser audio to use.
Record the tab you choose, split it into tracks and save the parts you need as MP3 or WAV.
