How do I keep a short audio explanation from an online class?
For a class you are allowed to record, capture one short explanation from its browser playback rather than trying to save the whole lesson. Export a named track and keep the lesson URL, timestamp and your own notes beside the file.
Give the clip one revision job
A useful revision clip answers a specific question: how the instructor defines a term, why a calculation uses a particular assumption or what distinguishes two similar concepts. Pick that question before recording. A short explanation with a clear beginning and end is easier to revisit than an unlabeled chunk of a lesson.
Use the course’s own download or offline option when it provides the material you need. If you use Tabtone, first check that the instructor or course permits saving the excerpt. A recording for your study notes does not establish permission to distribute course material.
Capture the explanation
- In desktop Chrome, open the lesson and find the relevant timestamp. Note the lesson title, URL and timestamp in your study notes.
- Pause a little before the explanation. Open Tabtone, confirm the lesson tab is selected and check the recording length. A Free take lasts up to three minutes.
- Click Record this tab and start lesson playback. Include enough context to understand the instructor’s answer when you listen tomorrow.
- At the end of the idea, click Stop & save. Tabtone opens the studio with the saved take.
- Rename the overall recording with the course and topic. Rename the relevant track with the question it answers, then press Enter or leave the field to save.
Check the clip without the lesson page
Use Preview and ask whether the audio still makes sense on its own. Phrases such as “this line here” may depend on an equation or diagram. Add a reference to the slide in your notes, or choose a different excerpt. Tabtone captures audio only, so it will not save the video, whiteboard or captions.
If a thoughtful pause becomes a split, use Merge at to keep the explanation together. You can also increase the silence-duration slider for fewer suggestions. Automatic edge trimming preserves an 80 ms margin around detected sound; it does not understand the content of a sentence.
Make the file easy to find
Choose MP3 for a compact listening copy, or WAV when your next step needs that format, then export the track. Preview the downloaded file in the player you will actually use. Name related notes consistently, for example “Statistics — why divide by n minus one”, so the clip and explanation stay connected.
Tabtone’s local library is not a backup. Use the backup workflow for files you want to keep. If the passage exceeds the current take length, check the available limits before recording it.
Put your browser audio to use.
Record the tab you choose, split it into tracks and save the parts you need as MP3 or WAV.
