How do I save separate voiceover takes playing in my browser?

Tabtone can capture the browser playback of voiceover takes you already own or are allowed to record. Play a short set in one tab with quiet gaps, review the suggested separation, name the takes and export them individually; Tabtone does not record your microphone.

Make a short review reel

Suppose you have three readings of an opening line in a browser-based project. You want a writer or producer to hear the options without working through the whole session. A small review reel with clear take names makes that decision easier.

Use your voice tool’s own export if it already gives you the original takes you need. Tabtone records the sound played by the selected tab. It does not capture a new microphone performance, separate voices or remove room noise from existing audio.

Record and separate the takes

  1. Arrange the lines or takes in a sensible order. Keep a note of which is which. If you can control playback, leave a few seconds of quiet between attempts so there is an obvious gap.
  2. Pause the source, open Tabtone on that Chrome tab and select the recording length before you start. A free take lasts up to three minutes; plan a short group rather than an entire voice session.
  3. Click Record this tab, play the takes and choose Stop & save when the group is complete.
  4. In the studio, set Split when silence lasts so the gaps between takes create boundaries. A longer setting makes fewer suggestions and can help keep ordinary pauses inside a line together.
  5. Use Preview to check every result. If a dramatic pause divided a single performance, use Merge at on that boundary.
  6. Name each track, for example “Opening — take 1 warm” and “Opening — take 2 direct”. Choose an export format and export each track separately.

Preserve the performance

A breath, a soft consonant or a deliberate pause may matter to the reading. The default edge trim keeps a small safety margin, but you should still listen to the first and last words. Lower the threshold under Fine-tune quiet audio if quiet speech is being treated as silence. Disable Trim silence at the start & end when you want the full interval between boundaries.

There are no manual cut handles or arbitrary new split points in this version. If takes run together without a quiet gap, record them as separate short sessions or finish the cuts in your usual editor. Tabtone also does not level the takes, remove breaths or add processing.

Rename the overall recording to the script and scene so exported files have a useful context as well as a take name. The naming guide explains the two levels. For a spoken clip taken from a finished episode, follow the podcast excerpt workflow instead.
