How do I split one browser recording into separate audio tracks?

Tabtone suggests track boundaries where the captured audio stays quiet for a chosen length of time. After recording, adjust the gap setting, preview the tracks and merge any unwanted splits before exporting each track individually.

Use the pauses you already have

Imagine playing three of your own sound effects in a browser, leaving a pause between each. A single short take keeps the session together; separate exports make the effects easier to use afterward. The same approach works for a few permitted pronunciation examples or alternative voiceover lines played from a tab.

The important ingredient is a real quiet gap. Tabtone listens for level and duration, rather than recognizing songs, sentences or speakers. A pause inside a piece can become a suggestion too. If you need a cut at an exact word with no quiet interval, this version does not provide arbitrary manual split points.

Turn the take into useful pieces

  1. Open the source tab, choose Tabtone from Chrome’s Extensions menu and click Record this tab. Play the short sequence. Stay within your selected recording length. Free takes stop at three minutes; check the recording length options before a longer take.
  2. Click Stop & save. In the studio, find Split when silence lasts. Start with the default 1.5 seconds.
  3. If ordinary pauses create too many tracks, move toward a longer gap. If distinct examples remain joined, try a shorter gap. The available range is 0.5 to 5 seconds.
  4. Click Preview on each track. Use Merge at beside a suggested boundary to join its neighboring sections. Restore split at brings that boundary back.
  5. Give the resulting tracks meaningful names, choose MP3 or WAV and click each track’s Export button.

Check the joins as well as the count

A neat count of three tracks does not prove the boundaries are right. Listen to the first and last sound of each export, especially soft attacks and long tails. Lower the silence threshold for quiet material if audible passages are being treated as gaps.

Restore suggested splits re-enables all suggested boundaries at the current settings. It does not return the gap slider to an earlier value. Your original capture remains unchanged while you try these choices.

The finished result is a set of individual, named files, rather than a ZIP or automatic batch download. For a reference copy of the whole browser take, also use Save original. See how recording and track names affect filenames before organizing a larger collection.
