How do I collect my own browser sound effects as separate files?
Play a short collection of your own or permitted effects in one Chrome tab, leaving quiet gaps between sounds. Tabtone can suggest a track for each effect, let you check the separation and export the results as individually named audio files.
Build a small collection with a purpose
You might be gathering interface sounds for a prototype, cues for a tabletop session or effects you made in a browser sound tool. Pick a coherent group: three notification options, a handful of transitions or one scene’s cues. A short, named collection is easier to evaluate than a long recording of unrelated sounds.
Prefer the tool’s original downloads when available. Browser capture is useful when you need a record of the playback you are hearing or a quick set to review. Only include effects you own or are allowed to record and use; recording does not provide a licence for a sound library.
Leave gaps that can become boundaries
- Prepare the effects in one source tab. Decide their order and leave time for each sound’s tail to finish before the next begins.
- Open Tabtone on that Chrome tab, check the selected source and choose the recording length. Keep the group within your selected recording length. Free takes stop at three minutes; check the recording length options before a longer take.
- Click Record this tab and play the effects, leaving a few seconds of quiet between them. Choose Stop & save after the last sound finishes.
- In the studio, adjust Split when silence lasts to match the gaps you left. Preview every suggested track so a long decay has not been separated from its attack.
- Use Merge at to remove a boundary that belongs inside one effect. Name the recording for the collection and each track for its sound.
- Select MP3 or WAV and export each track individually. There is no batch or ZIP track export in this version.
Keep the tails and identify the files
Very quiet reverberation can fall below the silence threshold. Lower the value under Fine-tune quiet audio when you want that tail treated as part of the sound. You can turn off Trim silence at the start & end to keep complete intervals between split points, although the quiet gaps will then remain in the files.
Use names that help in the next project: “Soft confirm”, “Wood door close” or “Transition airy B”. These names affect file naming; Tabtone is not a tagging or searchable sample-library application. Export the files into a project folder and audition them there before removing the local recording.
For effects with no quiet break, a separate take may be simpler than adjusting the gap control. The splitting guide covers the boundaries. If your goal is to document a sound inside a working web app, use the product feedback workflow to keep the action and test result connected.
